The Christuman Way

A Community of Souls...exploring the mystery of being human

The Gift: Forward and Intro

Our Sunday Evening Seminars will be reconvening in October for an exploration of the foundational Christuman motif of human creativity. For the next few months, we’ll be reading and discussing Lewis Hyde’s The Gift, subtitled so aptly: How the Creative Spirit Transforms the World. I hope you will get a copy of the book, (Vintage Books, 2019 edition, available in paperback or kindle) and plan to join in on this exploration of “How the Creative Spirit Transforms the World.”  I envision it opening into many new and exciting realms of possibility!!

The plan is to meet virtually two Sunday evenings a month with one Sunday evening discussion based on the reading from The Gift and the second evening a “readaround” of the creative works of a particular artist (primarily--but not exclusively--poets or writers) mentioned or at least connected in some way to the Hyde reading.

So, Sunday Evening, October 10, we’ll discuss the “Foreword” (by Margaret Atwood) and “Introduction” to The Gift. Then on Sunday Evening, October 24, we will do a Margaret Atwood “readaround” – and I hope our Christuman poet laureate, Donna, will advise us of some “best-of-Atwood” to share.

Questions are welcome and more info to come, I’m sure!
