The Christuman Way

A Community of Souls...exploring the mystery of being human

VI. The Quest

Joseph Campbell said, “The two, the hero and his ultimate god, the seeker and the found—are thus understood as the outside and inside of a single self-mirrored mystery, which is identical with the mystery of the manifest world. The great deed of the supreme hero is to come to the knowledge of this unity in multiplicity and then to make it known.

What a fiery quest to come to the knowledge of this unity in multiplicity and then to make it known. A self-mirrored mystery confronts us and confounds us and informs us with its outside and its inside—a mystery identical with the mystery of the manifest world.

Consider this one chance for transformation, this one chance to expound your being into an enlightened conversation, to explicate a vision that is not limited to only what you see, what you touch, but a chance to articulate the Word, a chance to embrace that oh-so-human (the Seeker), oh-so-Godlike impetus (the Found) to create.

Can you break through to the impossibility of your own uniqueness, the impossibility of your own unitedness circulating the song, the prayer that was let loose so many eons ago—be totally present, full of an arcing light, burning up every bit of tungsten resident in your being? Can you so submit, so unite, so bear light that you are ablaze with a Beloving embedded in the continuity of your own DNA that is still expressing itself through you as a Named entity born to this place and time?

Here you are—endowed with a wealth of Spirit connected in unseen ways with community playing out a song let loose so long ago. And here you are in this many-colored, mysterious creation of universes living on an amazing planet called Earth gifted with the inexhaustible potential to bear light. You are present in a most confounding self-mirrored mystery revealed in the hidden truth of: red rocks, aspens, constellations, caverns and painted caves.

Such beauty and life in what you can see and such beauty and life hidden beneath their profound manifestation. And so, consider the uniqueness of each human being (each hero, each seeker) remarkable for a distinctive pattern of iris and thumbprint and achievement—and yet there are roots that connect the human as one organism. There are alluvial roots that seem to move through the human in dreams, archetypal battles, mythic images that carry in a sustained source of the sacred, that bubble up into the will to create, that connect each one to something Holy, something Wholly Other Than.

Is it possible you are the one chance for this Spirit to know you which is to say the one chance for this Spirit to know life and love through you? Is it possible you are the outside and inside of a single self-mirrored mystery filled with pathos and pothos from a Spirit that groans to experience this multi-colored universe through you? Indeed, you are embodying a fiery quest that seeks to unbind the Beloved, unleash the Beloving and in this quest discovering both the Seeker and the Found. May it be so.
