Moments
O Beloved Spirit,
Where are we along the Chronos line of Time?
What portion is still ours to know?
How long before the emptying out of this shell of ours
and our emergence without bones, just wings?
I think that “whenever” comes, it will feel too soon;
And yet, as we ripen in experience and deepen in love
we are fortified by an astounding grace and
buoyed up by an enthusing joy
as we are so smitten with life
Oh, heart of our souls,
May we sing this day while there is still breath.
May we dance this day while there is still music.
May we embrace this day while there is still joy.
Our line of time—our lineage of time—our timeline
strung into contiguous Moments
to be savored, to be drunk deep, to be inhabited.
May these Moments spill out
in wonder, into the Wonderful,
into the wonder-filled beauty of
Trees dressed in their finest stole of leaves;
Flowers in full fractal blooms of color
Skies whimsically brushed in the sheer of clouds.
Oh, heart of our souls,
May we sing this day while there is still breath.
May we dance this day while there is still music.
May we embrace this day while there is still joy.
O Chronos, you seem in too-short supply
and so we look to deep time—Kairos—
and sing a song of that which is timeless—
which is true, which is without measure:
a hug, a handshake, a laugh, a tear
a prayer, a contemplation, a dialogue.
O Joy, may you infiltrate our Moments
and remind us how good the goodness can be.
Oh, heart of our souls,
May we sing this day while there is still breath.
May we dance this day while there is still music.
May we embrace this day while there is still joy. Amen
